ENGLAND PRAIRIE at “TWENTY-FIVE” written by Bob A. Bilden “Tired-Iron Troubadour” August 2005
A few folks got a notion, five and twenty years ago; to work and put together an old-time threshing show; their plans became reality, their efforts through, they’d carry; at this quiet little place, which they called England Prairie!
Dedicated ones showed up, to lend a helping hand, and put the things together (on their chosen piece of land) that would re-create a picture of how things used to be; in rural life of years ago, for visitors to see!
An old-time sawmill was set up on edge of the ground; and to compliment the setting, a vintage engine, found; to quietly provide the power to saw the logs just right; When all was assembled, it really was some sight!
A thresher was another must; and a tractor, it to belt; and buildings were essential needs; and so important, felt; much work was expended to get ready for that show; that started England Prairie, five and twenty years ago!
It came to pass; the show was held; and all worked out quite well; their efforts were rewarded, this they would plainly tell; its success make them confident that they’d continue on; to next year plan another show, like the one now come and gone!
Disappointments came their way, at times throughout the years’ but, by God’s grace, they overcame, joys overshadowed fears; as faithfully, they moved along, their spirits quite alive; keeping England Prairie confident, as they reached toward twenty-five!
An now, they’ve reached that milestone, at times, it hardly seems; a quarter of a century’s passed, since they began their dreams: to help perpetuate the past, a big load they carry; as dreams came to fruition, right here at England Prairie!
So, to those folks of wisdom, of whom, some now are gone; this tribute is afforded, in the hope the dream goes on; and wish to you the very best, and that nothing goes contrary; as you pursue your efforts--here at England Prairie!
(written and dedicated to all the good folks who make up the England Prairie Show May God bless and keep you as you continue to pursue your dream.)
